A shrink hood pallet wrapper opens and forms a loose fitting hood from a reel of tubular film and pulls it down over a raised pallet load. Heat applied progressively upwards from the base of the load shrinks the film providing tension to stabilise the load.
In another configuration, called a parachute machine, an inverted open hood is formed at low level and transferred by a swinging frame up and over the load. This type of machine requires a separate shrink frame unit or shrink oven downstream.
